Apricot Call Ducks

2nd in his class at National
Waterfowl Exhibition

Apricot Call ducks have the same markings as Blue fawn and Mallard but in different colour combinations. The duck is plainer than the drake, however many people think this is one of the nicer colour of calls.

This Apricot duck, now nicknamed 'The Stoat Duck', had a very narrow escape. (No prizes for guessing why) Last winter Colin found a young drake dead, and this duck in severe shock, with puncture wounds on her head and neck. We treated her wounds and kept her warm, but after a couple of days she still was not very good. On discovering that one leg was going green the vet prescribed antibiotics and bathing with salt water. She spent the next week swimming up and down our bath, a visitor to the house found this most entertaining! We had to clip her wings and give her an island to sit on, but it was worth it. She has completely recovered and is now the mother of the above drake. We were careful to give her plenty of clean water to drink before putting her in the bath of warm salty water (for an hour or so at a time). We have since heard of people losing ducks from salt poisoning, so do be careful if you try this. In her case it was possibly her only hope, so we had nothing to lose. The fact that our bathroom now resembles a disaster zone before every show, is entirely her fault!
